Facing Ways

-Thursday, 30 April 2026

Weekly Trivia: Established in the 17th century, the "Facing Ways" tradition dictates that the royal effigy on the obverse of British coins and banknotes must face the opposite direction of the preceding monarch. Consequently, King Charles III is depicted in a left-facing profile, a deliberate reversal of the right-facing profile used throughout the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
