On 19th October 2019, a detectorist discovered a Civil War Hoard buried in a field in Ansty, near Dorchester in Dorset. The Hoard included 234 coins covering the reigns of King Edward VI, Queen Elizabeth I, James I and Charles I, with some having been in circulation for almost 100 years. The hoard was submitted to the British Museum who examined and recorded it before returning to the finder. The coins are believed to have been buried for safekeeping by a farmer in 1644 as the English Civil War raged throughout England and the Welsh borders. The owner never returned to retrieve his savings, likely killed in the confl ict.
