The Protectorate of East Africa was created in 1895 from what is now Kenya and Uganda and it covered the territories controlled by the Imperial British East Africa Co. (IBEAC) after the major European powers divided up Africa among themselves. The Berlin Conference assigned the territory to Great Britain. These 1 piece coins were worth a quarter anna, or 1/64 of a rupee, and were only struck between 1897 and 1899 at the Bombay Mint in India. These coins are available in Very Fine condition.
