We just bought a large collection of King Edward VII Silver Threepences, the smallest silver coin issued by this Monarch for general usage. We have not checked the dates, but they were issued from 1902-1910. They were stuck in Sterling Silver and are well over 100 years old. We are not going to be sorting them, but just taking them out of the sack as they come. They are in Very Good or better condition and we know they are not easy to get. Everything before King George V is difficult to find, maybe it is because they are so old and struck in Sterling Silver. In 1977 Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Silver Jubilee 1952-1977 and the whole world went wild. For the first time many of her overseas countries issued crowns to celebrate the event. Today the coins would be the same size but have a face value of £2-£5 and sell for more. We have just found two rolls of the Jersey 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown in Uncirculated cupronickel. They are 42 years old and struck by the Royal Mint.

In 1931 the British Pound came off the Gold Standard, Abbey Road Studios was opened and work on RMS Queen Mary was started. The depression was hitting and the Government cut wages for their workers and reduced benefits for everyone. The smallest and still quite useful and valuable silver coin that was issued for circulation was the Threepence also known as the Joey. The design this year had three acorns on the reverse tied to three oak springs. The coins were struck under King George V and minted in 500 fine silver. The coins on offer are in Fine condition and a nice souvenir of a much harder time.
