This part of Africa has a long and changing history. In 1885, it was handed to Belgium, from 1925-1960 it was known as Ruanda-Ururdi and, in 1962, it became the Republic of Rwanda. We are featuring the coins issued under Belgian rule and thus we refer to them as Belgian Congo. Coins from this period are hard enough to find but in this condition you almost never see them.
