The £1 note was issued as a denomination by the Bank of England from 1797 until the 1820’s It then disappeared completely. It only reappeared 100 years later in 1928 when the design we know as the Britannia £1 was introduced. These early notes were Unthreaded and had the signature of C P Mahon as Chief Cashier. (B212). We have a very small quantity of these Mahon Britannia £1 notes. Grading About VF they all have the A prefi x – first for this variety.
