The British Linen Bank had its origins in the 17th century and continued to trade until it merged with the Bank of Scotland in 1970. These £5 notes date from the 1940’s and 50’s (P161) The densely engraved blue design is typical of the British Linen Bank notes of this era with a red sunburst underlay A panel to the left features a rendition of a seal of Pallas the Greek Goddess of Weaving -an early adoption linking the bank’s association with linen manufacturing and trading. Our notes grade VF and are Limited in availability.
