A fascinating and very informative book by Philip Attwood published by the British Museum Press in 1992. This lavishly illustrated book traces the revival of the Medal as an art form from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries. Beginning with the work of the French painter Alphonse Legros who revitalised the art form of the medallist by returning to the principles of the cast medals of the Italian Renaissance period.

The book reveals the involvement of many famous artists of the Pre-Raphaelite, New Sculpture and Arts and Crafts movement in the production of Medals.

Illustrates 130 medals with detailed descriptions, British Museum registration numbers and a detailed index in 64 pages with soft cover. Price includes UK postage.

A very informative insight into a somewhat neglected area of collecting. Even if you only have a small interest in medals, this book would make a great addition to your numismatic library.
