The 1985 Mint Set was special for two reasons, firstly because this was the year that the new effigy of our Queen was introduced on the coins. It was enraved by the sculptor Rafael Maklouf and it was only the third portrait of The Queen to be used on UK coinage since her accession in 1952.
The second reason is that there were two coins that were NOT struck for circulation, the 5p and the 10p, which are inclued in this set so, if you want or need either of these two coins for your collection you have to break up a Mint Set or a Proof Set.
The 1985 Mint Set comprises the £1, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, 2p and 1p coins all in Specimen Uncirculated condition. It is housed in an informative full colour bubble pack as issued by the Royal Mint.
Remember that the 5p and 10p of 1985 were not struck for circulation but they are included in this set.
