Cornelia Salonina, was the wife of the Emperor Gallienus, they married about ten years before his accession to the throne. When Gallienus became joint-emperor with his father Valerian in 253, Salonina was named Augusta. She lived during the intense Third Century Crisis of the Roman Empire (235-284 AD) and, despite the challenges of the era, she exerted a stabilising infl uence on her husband’s reign. Known for her intelligence and political acumen, Salonina actively supported Gallienus in his eff orts to defend the empire against external threats, including invasions by Germanic tribes and usurpers within the Roman ranks. Her presence at court provided a sense of legitimacy and continuity during a time of upheaval. Historical accounts of her life are scarce and her fate after Gallienus was murdered during the siege of Mediolanum in 268 is unknown. We have a small a group of Bronze Antoninianus in Very Fine condition from her reign, the obverse shows the bust of Salonina and the reverse has either a standing or seated deity.
