Picture of India, East India Co. Treasure XX Cash

India, East India Co. Treasure XX Cash

These 10 and 20 cash coins were struck for the East India Company in Birmingham in 1808. Unfortunately the coins never made it to India; the ship carrying them sunk on the Goodwin Sands and lay undiscovered for almost 200 years. The coins struck were the 10 and the 20 Cash coins. Both denominations are copper and have the arms of the East India Company supported by two lions on one side. The other side has the denomination XX (20) Cash or X (10) Cash and the inscription is in Arabic. These XX Cash coins are overall in Extremely Fine condition and are illustrated here. The coins have corroded surfaces due to their being buried for almost 200 years. Own a piece of British / Indian Treasure coin for far less than you might expect to pay. These are a wonderful conversation piece as well as true treasure coins. Each coin comes with a certificate of authenticity...

IRELAND 7-coin DECIMAL BU SET_main

IRELAND 7-coin DECIMAL BU SET

Although Ireland is now one of the countries to use the euro as its currency, the decimal pound was its currency for 30 years between 1971 and 2001. There are 7 coins in the set and all are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, though there may be some variation in dates. The three lower denomination coins all feature ornamental birds on the reverse, while the other four are more linked to agriculture, which was always the mainstay of the Irish economy. Only the 20 pence coin is significantly different from its UK equivalent, as it is larger, round and struck in nickel brass.

Ireland, 10 Shillings 1966, Easter Rising Anniv. KM.18, Uncirculated_obv

Ireland, 10 Shillings 1966, Easter Rising Anniv. KM.18, Uncirculated

In 1966, Ireland issued its first ever commemorative coin to mark the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising in 1916. It has the portrait of Padraig (Patrick) Pearse, who was one of the leaders of the rebellion against British rule in Ireland. The coin was struck in .833 silver on a concave silver planchet, it is 30.5mm in diameter and 3.21mm thick. The reverse shows the statue of Cú Chulainn, an Irish mythological hero. Two million of these coin were struck but almost 80% of them were melted down when decimalization came in and silver was high. Today, it is, in our opinion, one of Ireland’s most important type coins and much underappreciated. Several years ago, a company in Ireland offered them in the Irish newspapers at €125 (£107) each. We recently bought a small hoard in uncirculated condition. While that hoard lasts you can add one to your collection for just £29.50. Maybe worth buying a few to put away..

Picture of Papua New Guinea, Mint Set in full-colour folder

Papua New Guinea, Mint Set in full-colour folder

Direct from the Bank of Papua New Guinea is this fantastic set of 1995 Uncirculated coins. We would call them Prooflike or specimens but the bank called them Uncirculated, so Uncirculated they are. The set comes in a beautiful full-colour folder displaying both sides of the coin. Papua New Guinea is so heavily filled with trees and plants that it wasn’t until the 1930s that they found a million people in their interior. There are many different tribes and languages there and it can be a tough country. You get the 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 Toea and the 1 Kina. The 1 Kina has a hole in the middle and sea and river crocodiles chasing each other. The other coins have other native animals. Supplies are limited and you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one, it is fantastic!

Roll of 40 1997 USA Quarters BU_main

Roll of 40 1997 USA Quarters BU

First, let us say that we do not think that the 1997 United States quarter (25c) is rare, but in Krause for some reason they list it at $22.50 in MS65! So we put ‘ ’ around the word rare to get your attention. We have rolls of these coins, 40 coins in a bank wrapped roll in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. In theory they catalogue $900.00 (£715). I think this is an error on the part of the catalogue, but then again they have high prices on the 1998 quarters as well. Coincraft – Britain’s Coin Shop is either making a horrible mistake or offering you a fantastic bargain. We have 18 rolls available and are limiting them to one roll (40 coins) per collector.

Picture of Russia (USSR), 8 coin Mint Set

Russia (USSR), 8 coin Mint Set

This is a set of coins issued under the USSR. They are not easy to find these days, especially in Brilliant Uncirculated conditions. You get the 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 50 Kopeks. They are dated between 1979 and 1990. At the time these were issued it was extremely difficult to get coins out of Russia, especially Uncirculated coins. But when you know some people that know some people… Remember that all eight coins were not struck every year, so to complete the set took many years. We think this is a very interesting set of coins. Richard and Claire have visited Russia 3 or 4 times and they don’t remember seeing many coins in use, let alone Uncirculated coins...
