Royal Mint Coins are very popular with coin collectors from around the world. Over the years the Royal Mint has produced a significant number of commemorative coins, medals, and bullion, as well as all of the UK’s circulating coinage. As one of the UK’s biggest and oldest coin dealers, we sell Royal Mint coins to collectors and not investors. That is why you won’t find on this page all the Royal Mint commemorative coins released throughout the years. Elizabeth II, £2 (Rugby World Cup) 1999 Proof Sterling Silver
In 1999 the Webb Ellis Cup Final was hosted by the Welsh Rugby Union. To honour this even the Royal Mint issued a Special Commemorative £2 coin. This issue we offer the collector’s versions in Silver. Although they are struck in Proof Sterling Silver, to imitate the base metal bi-metallic currency issues, the Royal Mint gold plated the outer rim of the Silver Proof Coins. All coins come in a protective capsule as issued by the mint.

Elizabeth II, £2 (UEFA Euro) 1996 Proof Sterling Silver
For those of you who like football, in 1996 the Royal Mint issued a special commemorative £2 coin for the European Championship that was held in this country. You have a most interesting and innovative design on this coin and one which they, unfortunately, have not repeated. You had the whole reverse covered by a football and with the planchet concave you have a stunning coin. We are offering here is the Sterling Silver proof variant. This was the last of the large-sized £2 pieces and in our opinion the most attractive and innovative.

Elizabeth II, £2 1997 Silver Piedfort
In 1997 the Royal Mint issued the first of the current bi-metallic £2 pieces, the problem was how to strike them for collectors in Silver. The answer was to strike them in Sterling Silver and then to gold plate the outer ring so it would look like a bi-metallic piece. Many collectors have overlooked this series and to be honest we just don’t know why. The first of any series is important and these especially for the difficulty that the Mint faced in striking them. Elizabeth II, £5 (100th anniversary of the End of Victorian Era) 2001 Unc
This British £5 piece was issued 22 years ago in 2001 to honour the 100th anniversary of the death of Queen Victoria 1901/2001. It is one of the five pound pieces you almost never see. It is in Uncirculated condition and struck in cupro-nickel and the obverse has our late Queen Elizabeth II. It is interesting that it contains portraits of our two longest Monarchs and both of them were woman. A most interesting piece, but if you are going to use it for flipping we suggest you call heads!

Elizabeth II, £5 (King Canute) 2017 Sterling Silver Proof
In 2017 the Royal Mint issued a special commemorative Sterling Silver Proof £5 to honour King Canute. King Canute, also known as Cnut was born in Denmark in 985 and won the throne of England in 1016. Scotland submitted to him in 1017. His later accession to the Danish throne in 1018 brought the crowns of England and Denmark together. He is perhaps best known for the rising of the tide story. He was the King who sat by the water, raised his hand and commanded the tide to stop. He did this to show his sycophantic courtiers how empty and worthless the power of a King is when compared to the power of God who commands heaven, earth, and sea. We believe The Royal Mint issued this £5 in Proof Sterling Silver coin with a beautiful, yet modern design, for £82.50 at the time. They no longer have it for sale on their website, so they probably have sold out. We have them in the complete package as issued by The Royal Mint, outer package, inner package, certificate, etc.

Elizabeth II, £5 (Queen Mother 90th Birthday) 1990
In 1990 the late Queen Mother celebrated her 90th birthday and the Royal Mint issued a special commemorative £5 piece to honour that event. They also issued a specimen example in an early type of bubble pack, not as fancy as the modern packaging, not as expensive as the modern ones either. You have a crowned cipher on the reverse with the dates 1900-1990 and H. M. the Queen on the obverse. These are still mint sealed, in a smaller package which is easier to store. We found 25 of them in one of the vault rooms and while they last, you can have one for a great price!

Elizabeth II, £5 (Queen Mother) 2000 Silver Piedfort
In 2000 the Royal Mint issued a commemorative £5 to honour the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday. It is a most unusual coin as you have a Queen on both sides. The obverse has Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse her mother Queen Elizabeth. It is very unusual and a fitting tribute to the Queen Mother, who, unfortunately, died just 2 years later. The coins on offer are the Sterling Silver Piedfort coins. That means they are twice as thick as the normal silver proofs. The mintage is just 14,850 coins all in choice Proof condition. Today the Mint charges £167.50 for a Piedfort £5 piece. We made a great buy and we are giving you the chance to share in that fantastic purchase. The first £5.00 crownsized coin was struck in 1990 and it honoured the late Queen Mother on her 90th birthday, 1900-1990. You have her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, on the obverse and the entwined letter E & E for the two Elizabeth's on the reverse.
