Royal Mint Coins are very popular with coin collectors from around the world. Over the years the Royal Mint has produced a significant number of commemorative coins, medals, and bullion, as well as all of the UK’s circulating coinage. As one of the UK’s biggest and oldest coin dealers, we sell Royal Mint coins to collectors and not investors. That is why you won’t find on this page all the Royal Mint commemorative coins released throughout the years. Elizabeth II, £1 (English Pound) 1987 Silver Proof Piedfort - in capsule
In 1984 the Royal Mint started its first series of Silver Proof Pounds, they were for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and finally England. This 1987 issue was the last of the series and was for England. These are the normal coins that are used in circulation, but special collectors editions which the Royal Mint struck in Proof Sterling Silver and an even smaller number in double thick Sterling Silver, which they call Piedfort. Many collectors believe that they should start at the beginning of a series and then work toward today’s coins. The coins we offer are the Piedforts. Each coin comes in the protective capsule as issued by the Mint. Sterling Silver is 925 parts Silver per 1,000 parts total and is the Silver that our coins used to be made of. Elizabeth II, £1 (Northern Ireland Pound) 1996 Proof Sterling Silver - in capsule
The 1996 Silver Proof Pound is now 22 years old it would make an excellent gift for someone born or married in 1996. It has the Northern Ireland design on it which is the Celtic Cross and should appeal to anyone who has Celtic blood in them. Each coin comes in a protective capsule inside the case of issue as issued by the Mint. The obverse has the Maklouf bust of Queen Elizabeth II and this is the penultimate issue with this bust. Elizabeth II, £1 (Scottish Pound) 1984 Silver Proof Piedfort - In Royal Mint case
In 1983 the Royal Mint issued its first-ever non-Gold pound coin, in 1984 they issued its second-ever non-Gold pound. It is this second coin that we are now offering to you. It was the start of a series of four coins and the coins on offer are the Special Collectors Edition struck in Piedfort Proof Sterling Silver. Each coin comes in a protective capsule with a Royal Mint case. These beautiful Proof Silver versions of the pound in your pocket quickly sold out. Even our supply is very limited.

Elizabeth II, £1 (Scottish Pound) 1994 Proof Sterling Silver FDC - in capsule
This handsome Sterling Silver proof version of the Pound coin was issued in 1994 when the design was to honour Scotland. You have a rampant Lion on one side with the so-called Maklouf bust of the Queen on the other side. These are Special Collector’s Editions struck in Proof Sterling Silver by the Royal Mint. They had an original mintage limit of 25,000, but I don’t know how many they actually struck. Each Sterling Silver Proof comes in a protective capsule inside the original Royal Mint case of issue. The design is most attractive and it would be very difficult today to even get a normal circulation issue in Uncirculated let alone Silver Proof. Now some 26 years old and not an easy coin to find, a great gift if you know someone born or married in 1994 and with the new Pound Coin just released, interest and demand for these older issues is greater.

Elizabeth II, £1 (Specimen Pound) 2009 Prooflike Unc
The Pound coins toward the end of the series have always been difficult to find in Uncirculated condition. No one put them away as no one realized they were going to change the composition and design of the Pound. Not only did we have managed to obtain the difficult 2009 Pound, but the coins we have are also from the Mint Set and thus in Specimen BU condition. The Mint issues three grades of coins, Uncirculated that you get in your change with all the bag marks that entails. Specimen Briliant Uncirculated, were in bubble packs, Uncirculated but with beautiful Prooflike surfaces. Then there is Proof which requires the coin to have multiple strikes to get the almost perfect surface. These 2009 Pounds we are offering are in Specimen Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

In the year 2000 we saw something that most people will never see, not the change from one Century to another Century, but the change over from one Millennium to another Millennium. From dates that started 19—to ones that started 20—. The Royal Mint as usual issued a Sterling Silver version of the Pound coins for VIP collectors. It had a beautiful rendition of the Welsh Dragon and is one of the most beautiful of the Pound designs. Of course this size and composition of the Pound coin has already changed...

There has been a lot of talk of late about schools and businesses that were connected at one time to slavery and the slave trade. We are proud to be able to offer this Sterling Silver Proof £2 issued by the Royal Mint to honour the 200th anniversary of the Act for the Abolition Slave Trade in Great Britain. In 1994 the Royal Mint struck a special commemorative £2 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Bank of England. It was the old larger-sized £2 coin and looks rather fantastic. It has the monogram WM for William and Mary and a rather attractive seated Britannia. We have a nice group of this important and attractive £2 piece in Piedfort Sterling Silver Proof. The mintage is 9,569. They come in a protective capsule. It is a large size, it has a beautiful design, and the mintage is rather low, what more could you ask for?

Elizabeth II, £2 (London Olympic Handover Ceremony) 2008 Silver Proof
This Sterling Silver Proof £2 coin was issued in 2008/2010 for the handover of the Olympics from Beijing to London. It has the Olympic flag being transferred from one hand to the other and the two different dates. It was issued by the Royal Mint and it is one issue that many collectors are missing as the edition limit was quite low and many people who collect Olympic memorabilia snapped them up and they went abroad. Each Sterling Silver Proof comes in a protective capsule as issued.

Elizabeth II, £2 (Maid Marian) 2022 1 Oz Silver Brilliant Unc
The Royal Mint has now issued the 2022 coin in their Silver Myths and Legend Series. It is Maid Marian, it has a face value of £2, contains one ounce of pure Silver and is in Choice Brilliant Uncirculated condition. So now you can either add Maid Marian to your Robin Hood coin or if you haven’t bought Robin you can have him too. We don’t know how many others will be made but we sure hope Friar Tuck will be coming along shortly. Both of these coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and the Maid Marian is an early strike. That means the dies were new and the coins are just that better strike. Most collectors wouldn’t notice the difference, but as we bought them early we know ours are early strikes.

Guglielmo Marconi, the 1st Marquis Marconi is said to be the inventor of wireless transmissions and therefore radio. He won a Nobel prize for wireless transmission and founded the Marconi Company. In 2001 the Royal Mint honoured him with a special commemorative £2 piece. Beside the coins struck for circulation, they also made special collectors editions in Proof Sterling Silver and Piedfort or double the regular thickness again in Proof Sterling Silver. We recently acquired a small group of this very important commemorative decimal £2 coin in both Silver and Piedfort Silver. Each coin comes in a protective capsule. This one is a winner, the £2 issued for the Millennium in 2000, but a Sterling Silver Proof coin. It has two different colours, but the outer ring is gold plated and the coin is solid Sterling Silver and a gleaming proof. This is the new design with, of course, the portrait of H. M. Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. These Royal Mint coins come in a protective capsule as issued. Remember they are now 21 years old and much cheaper than the Mint charges for similar pieces today.
