To commemorate the birthday of the late Queen Elizabeth II, which falls on the 21st of April, we are delighted to unveil an exclusive assortment of banknotes showcasing the evolving portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, featured in our unique video below.
This distinctive compilation serves as a homage to the extraordinary late monarch and her rule spanning over seven decades. We invite you to partake in the celebration of the birth anniversary of our respected and dearly missed Queen Elizabeth II.
The Golden Jubilee was celebrated with a £5 note (B362) The front followed the usual design for the bank with a portrait of Lord Ilay, first Governor of the bank. The prefix was changed to TQGJ (The Queen’s Golden Jubilee) and a gold crown motif was added to the front left. The back shows the Queen as a young woman and then as she was in 2002 when the note was issued. All in all, a lovely design and popular with collectors.
Issued in 1986, this was the first £20 note ever issued by the remote British Overseas Territory of St Helena (P10a) All our examples have the prefix A/1. This is the highest denomination ever issued for this nearly inaccessible location and represented a lot of money at the time it was issued. Queen Elizabeth II is shown at right next to a view of Jamestown Harbour, while the back shows the Coat of Arms for the East India Company with the Latin motto ‘Auspicio Regis Senatus Angliae’ meaning By right of the King and Senate of England. In Lovely AU/Unc condition.
St Helena started issuing its own banknotes in 1979. Denominations up to the £20 were produced. Then in the 1990’s new notes, smaller in size were introduced. We can offer the larger St Helena £5. (P7b) A brilliant turquoise, a bareheaded portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the front to the right with a central view of St Helena, rising sheer from the sea, as someone arriving by sea would witness. The back features the Arms of the island. Uncirculated.
