In 320 B.C. Pytheas of Massalia was the first Mediterranean to visit Britain and write about it! He wrote of a group of tribes called The Cantii (or Cantiaci) whose name meant ‘people of Cantion’, ‘Cantion’ being roughly where modern Kent is now. They are next mentioned as the confederation of at least four ‘kings’ who fought Julius Caesar when he invaded Britain in 54 B.C. This independence lasts until the early first century A.D. when larger tribes, such as the Atrebates and Catuvellauni, absorbed them into their kingdoms. We have a small group of cast coins from the first century B.C. made from Potin, a mixture of copper and tin with a little lead and silver for colour. These coins are virtually as they were made, any weakness is from the casting process. The obverse shows a stylised head with a large central eye and the reverse is a stylised bull of straight lines. Add to your collection a coin of the Canti, the tribe that fought Ceasar at the edge of the known world!
Although Yugoslavia was created in the aftermath of World War 1, it did not become the country’s official name until 1929 when King Alexander I installed a personal dictatorship to promote a more centralised state. Until then it was known as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and the old Serbian dinar was introduced to all the regions gained from the Austrian Empire in 1920. These 1 and 2 dinar coins we are now offering, minted in 1925, bear the portrait of the king on the obverse side with his then official title of King of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

Continuing on with our extremely low mintage Patina Pattern Series. This issue we offer the rather exotic Andorra which is so hard to get coins of. There were only 50 sets of made for the entire collecting world. That means only 50 collectors in the whole world can own one of these uniface pattern Euro Sets and as Coincraft bought the entire mintage, you can only get them from us! It contains 16 uniface pieces struck on an oversized planchet. One for the obverse and one for the reverse. You get the 1 & 2 Euro sizes plus the 50c, 20c, 10c, 5c, 2c and 1c sizes. As it appears that they are going to stop making 1c and 2c coins these rare sets are even more exciting. These oversized pieces are struck in Proof condition marked ‘Trial, Probe, Essai, Prueba’ to show that they are patterns. Each set has 16 pieces in it and that works out to not a lot of money per piece and they only made 50 collections!
