The Winter Olympics being held in Beijing China are now over. To mark this important event, China has issued two commemorative 20 yuan notes, one printed on polymer and one printed on paper, depicted here. The paper Winter Olympics 20 yuan features a freestyle skier on the front and a view on the back of the National Ski Jumping Centre in Zhangjakou, also known as the Snow Ruyi. The Great Wall of China is also featured below.(P-New) Uncirculated.

The polymer 20 yuan has a pair of figure skaters on the front with a view of the structure known as the Ice Cube on the back. This building has been repurposed from its role in the 2008 Summer Olympics where it housed aquatic events and was known then as the Water Cube! (P-New) Uncirculated.
A trio of Uncirculated notes from China, dated 2005 and featuring a portrait of Mao Tse Tung. Included are the 5, 10 and 20 yuan (P903-5) The backs feature prominent landscapes including a Mountain Valley, the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and a river scene at Guilin. Thanks to an especially keen purchase by Richard, we can offer a set of Uncirculated notes from 1940s China. The four values issued by the Amoy Industrial Bank are the 1, 5, 10 and 50 cents (PS1655-8) Amoy is the name for the South Eastern city of Xiamen which can be found in Fujian province. The illustrations are quite simple with buildings and gateway with curved roofs. The serial numbers, unusually, appear on the back rather than the front of the notes.
Crisp Uncirculated 5 dollar notes issued by the Kwantung Provincial Bank in China in 1941.(PS2442d) This bank was the largest of the provincial banks and was eventually absorbed into the People’s Bank of China. The banknote has the portrait of revered revolutionary Sun Yat-Sen on the front with a view of the façade of the Bank Headquarters on the back.
The Cook Islands has just issued a new 3 dollar note in polymer to celebrate the 56th Anniversary of Constitution Day 1965-2021(P-New) The front follows the design of the first paper 3 dollars, discontinued some years ago with a vignette of the legend of Ina riding the shark holding a coconut. The back features a pukapuka fishing canoe at the centre and a view of the Te-Rongo statue to the right. Uncirculated.
The Pacific Arts Festival is a travelling festival, held every 4 years in the same year as the Summer Olympics by different countries in Oceania. It traditionally celebrates song and dance, In 1992, the 6th Festival was held in R--arotonga in the Cook Islands. This 3 dollar note was overprinted commemorating the occasion. (P6) The front design references the legend of Ina and the Shark while on the back we find an outrigger canoe and carved figure. Uncirculated.
Costa Rica is another country, which has decided to issue its banknotes on polymer. From this particularly attractive series, dated 2018 but only issued late last year ,we offer Uncirculated examples of the 2000 colones (P-New) This is a lovely note and in no small way because of the design on the back which features a Bull shark swimming among coral with a starfish and turtles also illustrated. The front has a map of the country in SPARK and a portrait of Mauro Fernandez Acuna . He was a 19th century politician and lawyer. Books are shown to his left and a view of Colegio Superior de Senoritas building in San Jose, which he helped found. Uncirculated.
