(P252-4) The fronts have a common design of an effigy of Republic while the backs feature animal and bird life – a marine turtle on the 2, the Great Egret on the 5, and the Greenwing Macaw on the 10 reais. In 1967 Singapore and Brunei came to an agreement whereby each currency would be valid in the other’s territory. The 40th Anniversary of this Currency Interchageability Agreement was celebrated in 2007 with the issue of a special 20 ringgit note in polymer plastic. In the countries Japan occupied during the Second World War, a special currency was issued denominated in the currency of the country before the occupation. In the case of Burma these Japanese Government headed notes were denominated in rupees. We offer examples of the 10 rupees issued for Burma (P16) The design was simple with a vignette of temples on the front and a panel of engraving on the back. Available here in F-VF.
During the Second World War Burma was occupied by Japanese forces. During the occupation, special currency was printed headed with the words Japanese Government. These so called JIM notes (Japanese Invasion Money) was fairly crudely printed and lasted for the duration of the war. We offer a quartet of these invasion notes issued for Burma. Our set comprises the 1, 5, 10 and 100 rupees grading Fine Unc.
