World War II British Coins

This coin was struck the year before the last silver Sixpence ever was struck, so the 1945 Sixpence is the Penultimate Silver Sixpence. It was issued under King George VI and just after the end of World War II. There is something about a coin struck in silver, they just look and feel great. These coins were put away in 1945 and therefore are in outstanding condition. We have them in the two highest grades you can get; this particular one is the Gem Uncirculated variant. Unlike the smaller denominations, the classic penny design featuring a seated Britannia, first introduced in 1860 and would continue throughout George VI’s reign. The Penny presented here is a 1937-48 Penny in Brilliant Unirculated condition. Dates will be of our choice.

We think the bronze coins of King George VI are much underappreciated. The farthings are easy to get, but it's much more difficult to obtain nice Pennies and Halfpennies.

In 1949 the Royal Mint changed the legend on our coinage, IND IMP was omitted. This was due to India gaining its independence from this country and there was no longer a reason to have it on the legend. There were only two more pennies after this issue and both of these are Rare and very expensive, especially in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. If you want an important type coin, at a price that won’t break the bank, then this 1949 Penny without IND IMP is the coin for you. All of the coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and came from a bag that was found in a bank in the United States. They had been there since 1949! These are priced right to entice and delight you and at our price, it might be interesting to buy a couple of extra pieces for trading with other collectors.

This Silver Sixpence was issued during World War II in 1942. Believe it or not, during the War, other metals were of more use than silver, so they used silver in our coinage. You have the bare head portrait of King George VI on the obverse and crowned initials on the reverse. If nothing else, this would make an excellent small present for someone getting married. They are in selected circulated condition, struck during World War II and struck in silver.

They make great type coins or if you were born that year, they make great presents. You have the bare head of the King on one side and the crowned cypher on the other side. These coins are in beautiful condition and remember the last silver coins ever were issued in 1946. King George VI was of course H. M. the Queen’s father.
