Victoria, Halfarthing Very Fine

The copper Half Farthing of Queen Victoria is a most unusual coin. They only made them in copper and most were used overseas, but they were of course legal tender and used in this country. We recently bought an old dealers hoard of these coins, most are dated 1844 or 1843 and they are in Very Fine condition. We last bought a hoard about ten years ago and this new hoard was very timely, as we had almost run out of them. They are not a coin that you can just go out and buy a quantity when you need it, they are not easy to get. This coin has always been one of my favourite denomination, a Half Farthing just sounds so unusual. The last time this denomination was used was under Queen Victoria and they were only struck in the early part of her reign, when the coins were copper and not bronze.

5 Silver Threepences Christmas Pudding

5 Silver Threepences for Christmas Pudding

The Royal Mint Stopped making silver threepences for circulation in 1944, but the later dates are more difficult to find, as most were made for export. We have just bought a huge lot of King George V and King George VI Silver Threepences, 2,300 pieces to be exact. At Christmas, these are used as gifts and also to go into the Christmas pudding. the person who finds it gets a present. These are not separated either by type or date, when the order comes in, someone will just count them out and put them in an envelope. They make excellent holiday gifts. They are circulated but there are no dogs, we made sure of that. A great Christmas Gift!

Picture of Edward VII, Sixpence (Silver) Very Good

Edward VII, Sixpence (Silver) Very Good

Edward VII Silver Sixpence. Very Good. They struck coins for King Edward VII from 1902 until 1910, a rather short reign. But then again he had to wait for Queen Victoria to pass away and she lived quite a long time. All of his silver coins are struck in Sterling Silver and the most difficult denomination to get is the Sixpence.

Edward VII, Shilling 1906 VG-Fine

Edward VII’s reign was very short, as he had to wait for his mother, Queen Victoria, to pass before he could become King. Coins for this Monarch were only issued from 1902-1910. Here we offer the 1906 Shilling. The Shilling was of course given to individuals when they joined the Services. You were said to take the King’s Shilling. This 1906 Shilling is in Very Good-Fine condition, and it was struck in Sterling Silver, which is the finest silver that a coin actually meant to be used was struck in.
