The 1993 Jefferson Dollars were struck to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States and the primary author of the Declaration of Independence. This was such a popular commemorative at the time of issue that the entire mintage of completely sold out of both the proofs and mint state coins. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson with the inscription, Thomas Jefferson Architect of Democracy, In God We Trust 1743 Liberty 1993. The reverse shows Jefferson’s home Monticello, in Virginia. We have managed to source just 20 pieces of this coin in Proof Silver.
