Sir Francis Chichester 1967 World Voyage 1/9 Stamp

In 1966 Sir Francis Chichester set off from Plymouth in the Gipsy Moth IV to try and single handedly circumnavigate the globe. 226 days later having made just one stop, in Sydney, he completed the single handed circumnavigation of the globe. Despite his poor health he made it and in record time. The Post Office honoured him and his historic deed with the issue of one stamp, at that time living people did not usually go on to stamps. But that one stamp had a face value of One Shilling and Nine Pence, a lot of money at the time. We can offer you a group of five Mint unused Sir Francis Chichester Stamps for just £3.50. They are now 52 years old. You get all five stamps in Mint condition for just £3.50.

St Helena / Liberia Golden Jubilee Cover

In 2002 Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Golden Jubilee 1952-2002. To honour this event the island of St. Helena issued a special crown showing the Queen’s crown on a cushion and the word ‘Accession’. Mercury Covers put this unusual crown into a large sized First Day Cover (FDC) with two $35 stamps honouring the Queen from Liberia. It was then cancelled with a special date cancellation. The crown is in Prooflike condition and is most unusual and one you just don’t find around. The cover also has a large full colour double photograph of the Queen. We were only able to get 50 of these large Crown Covers, after all, they are now over 18 years old.

There is a Crown from Ascension Island with crowed E & P on the reverse and the Queen on the obverse. You don’t normally see Crowns from Ascension, as they are usually paired up with St. Helena. Victoria & Edward VII High Values 2nds

This is a special offer of two high value stamps from the reign of Queen Victoria and two from the reign of Edward VII. They are the Half Crown or Two Shillings and Sixpence plus the Five Shillings. There are a total of four stamps two from Queen Victoria and two from Edward VII. They are slight seconds, but they look pretty good to me. The current catalogue price of the four stamps in average used condition is £700, but we can offer them as slight seconds for just £59.50 which is less than 10% of the catalogue price. Four very high face value stamps issued by Queen Victoria and her son Edward VII, at the time they had a face value of almost a Pound, which would have been a Gold Pound.

Victoria Imperf Penny red on Cover

These are fantastic items, original envelopes mailed in the 1840’s & 1850’s with the early imperforate (no perforations around the edge) Penny Red stamp. Many of the early issues were actually printed using the same plates used to print the Penny Black stamps. What is also fascinating about these early covers is the almost complete lack of an address! Most of the envelopes have only a name and a town on them so these people must have been well-known at the time. They also often carry additional handstamps showing which post offices handled them on route to their destinations. Fascinating pieces of social and postal history. Limited availability.
