Austria, pre-Euro set of 6 coins_main

Austria, pre-Euro set of 6 coins

Austria was one of the 12 countries to join the euro when it was launched in 2002, but until then the country used the schilling which was subdivided into 100 groschen. The reason that the 5 groschen was made of zinc was because they were struck on leftover blanks from wartime Reichpfennig coins, and although they were no longer made after 1992, they remained legal tender until 2002. The other coins are the aluminium 20 groschen and the aluminium bronze 50 groschen and 1 Schilling, as well as the copper nickel 5 and 10 Schilling.

Crispus, London Mint Follis, Good Very Fine_obv

Crispus, London Mint Follis, Good Very Fine

Flavius Julius Crispus was the eldest son of Constantine the Great, he became Caesar in March 317 AD but his promising career was cut short when he was executed in 326 AD on the orders of his own father. The exact details remain unclear but he must have committed an extremely serious crime to warrant such an act. These bronze Follis, minted in the name of Crispus at the London mint, show the extent of his power at the time. They feature his portrait on the obverse with the reverses mostly showcasing military motifs, such as a camp gate or a soldier holding a standard, symbolizing his victories in military campaigns. The London mint’s craftsmanship is evident in the detailed artistry of these coins and the PLON mintmark on the reverse provides the all-important evidence of these coins being minted in London sometime between 317-326 AD. They grade About Extremely Fine.

Cyprus Uniface Euro Pattern Collection_main

Cyprus Uniface Euro Pattern Collection

In 2003, ICB (International Currency Bureau) struck a set of Pattern Euro coins for Cyprus. The design was not accepted, but they are very collectable. This is very important only 50 sets were ever made of each type! That means in the entire world only 50 lucky collectors can ever own one of these collections. You could be one of the lucky 50! Each Proof-like Uncirculated piece is struck uniface on an oversized planchet, that means for each coin you have two pieces, one obverse and one reverse. Each piece is marked ‘trial Prueba Muster Essai’ to show that it is a pattern. There are a total of 16 pieces in each collection but only 50 collections of each were ever made. The interest in numismatic patterns is strong all over the world, but only 50 collectors in the entire world can ever hope to own one and perhaps you can be one. This set is from Cyprus, formally under British rule and one of the most popular places for Brits to holiday. Let me tell you when the European dealers heard we had this set, they all w
