First up, we’re spotlighting the Elizabeth I Threepence, available in Fine or Very Good condition. The silver threepence of Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603), first minted at the Tower mint in 1561, was part of her broader effort to reform England’s currency and stabilise the economy following the monetary debasements of her father – Henry VIII. They were amongst the first British coins to feature dates and therefore, like the sixpences are popular with collectors. They are at least 442 years old.
Next is the Victoria, Godless Florin 1849 Fine! Gaius Messius Quintus Trajanus Decius, known as Trajan Decius or simply Decius, was Roman emperor from 249 to 251. A distinguished politician during the reign of Philip the Arab, Decius was proclaimed emperor by his troops after putting down a rebellion in Moesia. In 249, he defeated and killed Philip near Verona and was recognized as emperor by the Senate afterwards. During his reign, he attempted to strengthen the Roman state and its religion, leading to the Decian persecution, where a number of prominent Christians (including Pope Fabian) were put to death. In the last year of his reign, Decius co-ruled with his son Herennius Etruscus, until they were both killed by the Goths in the Battle of Abritus. We have ten high grade examples of these silver Antoninianus available struck during his short reign. They have his portrait on the obverse and various reverse types usually depicting a standing figure. All coins supplied will be fully identifi ed as to the reverse type. If you order more than one then we will ensure that you receive different types.

These coins commemorate the Territorial Defence Force, the Air Defence Corps and the destroyed Antonivsky Bridge over the Dnieper River in Kherson, which became a flashpoint during the Russian invasion and was largely destroyed in 2022. Two of the coins dated this year remember the Medical Corps and the Army’s Special Transport Service.

The florin of 1849, often called the "Godless florin," was Britain’s first attempt at decimalisation. The florin was valued at two shillings, or one-tenth of a pound, making it the first decimal coin in the UK. The coin featured a portrait of Queen Victoria on the obverse, but controversially omitted the usual inscription "Dei Gratia" (By the Grace of God), leading to public criticism and the "Godless" nickname. The reverse showed cruciform shields with national emblems. Although it was only struck for two years, from 1849 to 1851. By 1851, a redesigned “Gothic” florin was introduced, restoring the religious inscription, and the "Godless" version was discontinued. These first florins marked a significant step towards eventual decimalisation in British currency, 120 years later!
William III and Mary II were England’s first and only joint sovereigns, with Mary sharing equal status and power. William and Mary came to the throne after the "Glorious Revolution" of 1688 when Mary’s father, James II, was deposed for trying to enforce Catholic tolerance in England. The King and Queen ruled jointly from 1689 until Mary’s death aged 32 in 1694. William and Mary were, in fact cousins, sharing King Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria as grandparents. We have on off er the ever-popular, and getting harder to find 1694 halfpennies. They’re a one-year type and were struck in Copper at the Tower, just before they moved to the new mint on Tower Hill. This was also to be the final year of their brief joint-reign. These 330 year old halfpennies were very well circulated as they were used for everyday trades for many decades, so they are usually very worn. We have these 330 year old copper halfpennies in several grades to suit your budget.
