Gallienus, Extremely Fine Portrait Antoninianus_obv

Gallienus (A.D. 253-268), Antoninianus Extremely Fine Portrait

Gallienus (A.D. 253-268) is a much maligned Roman emperor. Originally he ruled jointly with his father, Valerian I, until the latter was scandalously captured for life by the Sassanid Empire in A.D. 260. Throughout Gallienus’ reign he also faced natural disasters, disease and invasions on all sides. But most serious were at least 8 internal rebellions from his own governors and generals, the last one killed him! Even with these setbacks his impressive 15 years was by far the longest reign of the period called ‘The Crisis of the Third Century’. His reforms, such as a mobile field army, set the stage for the revival of the empire by others after he died. We have put together a small group of his billon silver Antoniniani with various reverses. The chaos of his reign famously meant the quality of his coins declined compared to earlier emperors. What makes these we offer so special is that the portraits are all clear and in Extremely Fine grade! And at a price we think you will agree is most fair, we got a good deal on these so we pass that saving on to you, don’t miss out...

George II, Farthing _Young Head_obv

George II, Farthing (Young Head)

King George II ruled from1727-1760, his young head bust was used on the copper farthings from 1730-1739. His bust is facing left on the obverse and Britannia is seated on the reverse. It is the smallest coin struck at the time, i.e. the lowest value and thus well circulated and used. We can offer this as a type coin, dates of our choice, in two different grades. Fair which is very worn but then again they are almost 300 years old and Fine with much more details show and to be honest a much nicer coin.

1806 Half Penny Fine_obv

George III, Halfpenny 1806 Fine

During the reign of King George III there was a great shortage of small change. The last type of Halfpenny issued for this Monarch were struck in 1806 and 1807. We recently purchased a nice group of the 1806 issue, the first year of issue in Fine and Very Fine condition. You have the bust of King George III dressed as a Roman on one side and the seated figure of Britannia on the other side. These were the last copper George III halfpennies issued. After the Currency Reform Act of 1816, they didn’t bother to issue any halfpennies.

1937 Coronation Proof Set in Leather Case

George VI, 1937 Coronation Proof Set in Leather Case

In 1937 the new King, George VI, was crowned. It was the first and last silver Proof Set to be issued for this monarch. World War II came in and there were just other uses for the metals rather than Proof Sets. But what a Proof Set this Coronation set is. You start off with the 4-piece Maundy Set, then you add a Silver Proof Crown, Silver Proof Halfcrown, Silver Proof Florin, the first-ever Silver Proof English Shilling, the first-ever Silver Proof Scottish Shilling, a Silver Proof Sixpence plus a Silver Proof threepence. Then you add a Brass Threepence, the first year of issue of this coin and in Proof, plus the Penny, Halfpenny and Farthing the first year of the Wren Farthing. Overall, you have 15 different coins in this Coronation Proof Set including three, yes three, Threepences. The set comes in the red leather case of issue, today they use leather look material, but in 1937 they used real leather. All the silver coins are in brilliant Proof condition. We have just found three of these sets while going through some purchases we've made in the past... These sets are in strong demand at the moment, don't miss out…
