We're showcasing the 1989 £2, Pair Of Silver Piedfort Proofs For The Claim And Bill Of Rights. It was in 1989 that the Royal Mint marked the bicentennial of William & Mary’s Bill and Claim of Rights, a significant event for both England and Scotland. These are the traditional larger £2 items, minted in Piedfort Proof Sterling Silver, presented in the Royal Mint's official case. A beautiful pair. Also, the 2022 Queen’s Beast Lion of England, issued by the Royal Mint in 2022 this £5 is part of the Tudor Beast series. It contains two ounces of pure silver.

The Belgian Victory Medal was established by royal decree on 15 July 1919 and awarded to all members of the Belgian Armed Forces who served during the World War I. The basic obverse design, by the Scottish sculptor William McMillan, is a winged Victory standing on a globe and was adopted by many of the allied countries.

Better Victorian Old Head Crowns

Victoria issued crowns with her “Old” or “Widow” Head between 1893 and 1900. They are large, impressive pieces made of Sterling silver and were worth today’s equivalent of about £25. We usually off er them in VG or Fine grade. We have accumulated a group of better grade examples in Good Fine or Better and are going to offer them by date because we know that’s what you, our customers like. 1894 and 1898 are rarer dates so stock is limited.

Bulgaria, Gros of Ivan Sracimir

Ivan Sračimir was the second son of Ivan Aleksander and was appointed co-emperor by his father in 1356. At this or some later point, he was given control of Vidin, a port city on the southern bank of the Danube in north-western Bulgaria. It is close to the borders with Romania and Serbia, which he held for the rest of his reign. These small silver coins show Ivan Sračimir enthroned facing, holding a sceptre and mace and the reverse shows a half-length facing bust of Christ, they grade Very Fine but we have very limited numbers available.

Colombia Leper 2 Centavos

Leper colony coinage in Colombia circulated only in the country’s three government backed quarantine stations over fears that using regular coins could spread the infection to others outside. These 2 centavo coins, which we can off er in Very Fine condition, were minted in 1921. On the obverse they have a stylised cross with the word “LAZARETO” (the Spanish word for a quarantine station), while the obverse has the date and the denomination within a wreath. These special stations were closed in the 1950s and the inmates were allowed to exchange them for regular coinage at any bank.

Crusader Coin from Antioch

We have available a number of these small copper follis coins issued under the rule of Tancred, an Italian born nobleman who took part in the First Crusade. After the crusade he became Prince of Galilee and Regent of the Principality of Antioch from 1100 until his death in 1112. The coins themselves date from between 1104 until 1112. On the obverse is a bust of St Peter holding a cross with the Greek inscription “God help your servant Tancred” on the reverse. They are crudely struck but grade Fine.

British Imperial Silver coins were in use on Cyprus from 1882 with the British Shilling trading as 9 Piastres. In 1900 it was decided that piastre denominated silver coins would be struck at the Royal Mint in Tower Hill, London and this was the first issue of these. Under the new system, silver coins were legal tender to 540 piastres and bronze to 27 piastres. These 3 Piastre coins were struck for the first time and dated 1901, it was the local valuation of the Imperial 4 pence or groat. With a mintage of only 300,000 these are scarce coins in any grade. Very limited availability.

East Germany 5 Marks 1969 BU

East Germany, formally known as the German Democratic Republic (GDR), was created out of the former Soviet Occupation Zone in October 1949. Some 20 years later in 1969, the authorities there issued this 5 Mark coin to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the new state. The obverse of the coin features the GDR emblem (hammer, protractor and a wreath of corn) with a surrounding legend of the country’s name in full. These coins all come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
