Israel’s first plastic note was issued in 2008 to mark the 60th year since the founding of the State of Israel. (P64) Printed in vertical format, the front features a portrait of Moshe Sharrett, Israel’s 2nd Prime Minister who was prominent in negotiations with the British which led to the creation of the State of Israel. The background recalls the ceremony of the raising of the Israeli flag at the UN building in 1949 and an extract from the speech Sharrett delivered on that occasion. The back illustrates Jewish Brigade volunteers, a look out tower and text from a radio address by Sharrett. Printed in polymer plastic these Israel 20 shequalim are £9.75 each.
