Guernsey 1 Double 1893 BU

Until the early 19th century pre-revolutionary French coinage circulated widely in Guernsey and coins of the old French livre remained legal tender until 1834. It was only in 1830 that Guernsey began using its own copper coins denominated in doubles, a term derived from old French “double denier” coins. The use of double denominated coins continued right up to decimalisation in 1971. We have a small number of these coins made at the Heaton mint. These 1893 doubles are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
