Canada, Newfoundland, George V 50 cents

One of the only countries to issue coins with the name King Edward VIII on them was British West Africa. No countries issued coins with his portrait, just a few with his name on their coins. The coins of British West Africa have a star on them and a hole in the middle, so the natives could sting the coins and then wear them. There are 3 different denominations 1/10th Penny, 1/2 Penny and 1 Penny. All the coins were struck in this country and then sent to Africa. Here we are offering the one penny in Uncirculated condition. Buy it and then you can tell your friends that you own an actual Edward VIII coin. Remember he was King for only 10 months...

We have put together a nice three-coin type set of the King George VI coins from Newfoundland. Of course, Newfoundland is now part of Canada, but since the time of Queen Victoria, they have issued their own coinage. Because the population of Newfoundland is so small, the mintages on these coins are also rather small and it is a country that no longer issues its own coins. You get the bronze Penny plus the Silver 5 Cents and the 10 Cents of King George VI, all issued under the name of Newfoundland. The coins are in Fine or better condition and we think the three coins make a nice type collection of their coinage. They don’t make coins of Newfoundland any more, but we have the set for your collection. The history behind the coins is most interesting and so are the coins themselves.

In the reign of King George V, the Canadian Mint issued the One Cent coin in both large size and small size. They reduced the size of the coin to save money. We bought a nice group of the older large sized King George V Canadian Cent. The coins are in Fine condition and we have a few different dates available. This coin was struck only from 1912 to 1920. Dates will be of our choice but the more coins you order the more different dates we will try and give you. A perfect example of how countries save metal without reducing the face value of their coinage. The first large cent was issued under Queen Victoria and the last under George V.
