France Louis XVI 2 Sol, Fair

Although the French Revolution began in 1789, Louis XVI remained on the throne as a constitutional monarch until September 1792, and not as the absolute ruler he had been before. The old “livre tournois” remained the currency until it was replaced by the franc in 1795, so these 2 sol coins were the last of his reign. Struck only between 1791 and 1793, they show the image of the king with his new title of “King of the French”. The obverse shows a Liberty Cap on a fasces against a background of an oak wreath. These coins are very well worn and are only being offered in Fair condition, but they are definitely of great historical interest. FFR9953 Lous XV.
