Elizabeth II, 50 Pence (NHS) 1998 Silver Proof Piedfort

In 1998 the Royal Mint issued a special 50 Pence honouring the National Health Service (NHS). They made some special coins for very special collectors. They were struck in Proof Sterling Silver and were twice the normal thickness or Piedforts. We have just bought 10 of these important type coins. With what some of the prices that are being asked for ‘common’ current coins, we think this is good value.

In 1985 the Royal Mint released the first one pound coin with the Welsh reverse featuring a leek. This was also the first one pound coin with the Maklouf portrait of The Queen. This Leslie Durbin reverse design was repeated once again on a second edition in 1990. Here we offer the Sterling Silver Proof edition which had a much lower mintage than the 1985 issue. They are in Choice Proof FDC condition in a capsule and struck in Sterling Silver, add one to your collection, there are not as many around as there once were.

The Britannia silver series is usually only available in Proof condition, except for the one-ounce silver. But in 2006 the Royal Mint issued the 1/10th Silver Britannia in Uncirculated condition. As far as we know, this is the only year that they issued this coin in Uncirculated condition. So it is a Very Important type coin. This is a special coin. First, because it was only issued for one year and secondly and most importantly because we can sell it for such a cheap price. Each coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and struck in Sterling Silver, they only ever issued this coin in Uncirculated for one year. So it is a Very Important type coin.
