In 1996 the Royal Mint did something they had never done before. They issued a Proof Set of the then current 1996 coins but, every coin was struck in Proof Sterling Silver. Here we present the 1996 5 Pence in Sterling Silver .
Now this is coin that most people have heard of, but not all that many can own. The Quarter Sovereign was one made for the first time in 2009. We have the scarce Jody Clark 2019 in Proof condition of which they only made 2,500 coins. Our coins are complete in the Royal Mint wooden presentation case with all the original paperwork. With this low mintage it is easy to see why so many collectors are missing this coin in their collection. We have a very small number in stock and when these are gone there will be no more… This could well become one of the key coins of the series in the future.
This New 10 Pence comes in proof with the Machin Bust - this design was struck from 1968-1981. The ten pence is the most collected coin and often difficult to obtain.
One of the most interesting coins of the Decimal series is the 10 Pence pieces, especially the old large-sized coins. The first Decimal 10p was introduced in 1968, replacing the two shilling coin in preparation for decimalisation in 1971. It features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin on the obverse. Today you get the small-sized 10 Pence in your change, as this large-sized coin has not been made for over 16 years.
In fact the Royal Mint issued a set of coins for the new Decimalisation which contained three coins dated 1971 and two dated 1968. The 10 Pence and the 5 Pence were dated 1968 as they had an exact decimal equivalent. This older large sized 10 Pence was dated and issued in1968, three years before the coins were going to be issued. The set was to train people in the new decimal coinage. This 10 Pence is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and a lot of collectors are missing it from their collections.
The 1984 Halfpence, Two Pence, Five Pence, Ten Pence and Fifty Pence were not struck for circulation. The only way to get one of these coins is to buy a Mint Set or Proof Set and break it up. They only made 158,820 of the Mint Set with the coins in Specimen Brilliant Uncirculated condition. That makes these coins some of the lowest mintage coins around. Offered here is the Ten Pence in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
You may remember in 1992 the Royal Mint greatly reduced the size of our 10 Pence coins. They also issued this Piedfort or double the normal thickness 10 Pence in Sterling Silver. They only made 14,167 of these Silver Piedfort 1992 small size 10 Pences.
In 1996 the Royal Mint did something they had never done before. They issued a Proof Set of the then current 1996 coins but, every coin was struck in Proof Sterling Silver. Here we present the 1996 10p In Sterling Silver.
This Sterling Silver Proof version of the 10 Pence piece was struck for collectors in 2000, at the turn of the Millennium. This 10 Pence is struck in Proof Sterling Silver and would make an excellent addition to your collection. Re-live the Millennium with this most unusual coin.
In 1990 the Royal Mint reduced the size of the 5 Pence piece to the size we use today. They did strike some of the large sized 1990 5 Pence pieces but they were only in the Mint and Proof Sets. For collectors they issued a fantastic set of the Large and Small sized 1990 5 Pence pieces in Proof Sterling Silver. We have just managed to find a small group of this difficult to get set, up North. You get both the Large sized 1990 5 Pence in Proof Sterling Silver and the Small sized 1990 5 Pence in Proof Sterling Silver. The pair come in the Official Royal Mint presentation case. Not an easy set to get and the 1990 Large sized 5 Pence is really a collectors coin. Only a restricted number of sets in stock and when these are gone, who knows where we will find any more…
This is the old style 5 Pence piece, you know the ones we all liked. It which was issued up until 2008, then we changed over to the current design. We bought a group of beautiful Sterling Silver Proof examples of the 2000 5 Pence, which you usually see only in cupro-nickel. So this is a Special Issue at a very Special Price. You have the Ian Rank-Broadley bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and a crowned thistle on the reverse. This is the second type, the reduced size that we use today, but it has a totally different design on both sides. You can own the Sterling Silver Proof 2000 Queen Elizabeth II Five Pence, that we normally sell for £27.50, for just £17.50 which saves your £10.00. A Sterling Silver Proof 5 Pence for just £17.50, now that is a bargain. Supplies are of course limited, get in while you can.
1990 Large & Small 5 Pence Set Silver Proofs. In 1990 the Royal Mint reduced the size of our 5 Pence. To commemorate this historic reduction in the size of our coin, the Royal Mint issued a Special collector’s set of the old large-sized coin and the new smaller sized coin. But this set was only struck in Proof Sterling Silver, which makes it very important today. We have just purchased a small holding of the large and small Sterling Silver 5 Pence Sets. Each set is in the original Royal Mint case as issued. This set is missing from many collections and I think that you will find it most interesting.
In 2019 The Royal Mint allowed British Gold Sovereigns to be struck in India, with an ‘I’ mint mark. The last Monarch to allow this was King George V in 1918. The Mint has packaged them with a certificate calling them Bullion but they are certainly Specimens that look much like proofs. They are housed in nice official display cases. The coin is sealed in a card which is also its guarantee from the Royal Mint that it is genuine and of the same standard as a British Sovereign. It is the first time that we have seen them in the Royal Mint package, the coins were made in India. You have a current gold coin with the Queen’s portrait with the Indian mint mark. We have never seen them like this before. We bought all that the dealer had for sale, it was a good price, so you have a good price, that way everyone is happy.
The British Gold Sovereign was first issued under King George III as a replacement for the Guinea series. Each coin weighs just under 8 grams and is struck in 22ct Gold. Here we are offering the Jody Clark Sovereign Sovereign by type rather than by date.
