Victoria, Farthing 1901 Unc

Queen Victoria’s long reign ended in January 1901. So that the 1901 Penny, Halfpenny and Farthing are the last bronze coins made with her portrait. I have bought a small group of 1901 Farthings, but these Farthings are mint darkened at the Royal Mint before they were released. A great tribute to a great Queen and the condition is so nice. Offered here in Choice Uncirculated.

The smallest coin issued by British West Africa under Kings George V and George VI is the 1/10th Penny. It is about the size of the old sixpence, struck in cupro-nickel and with a hole in the middle. The hole was so the locals could carry the coins on a string as they didn’t have pockets. Uncirculated condition and generally difficult to find.

Most people think that the last pre-decimal coins struck for circulation were dated 1967, they would only be partly right. In fact most pre-decimal coins were last struck in 1967, that is except for the Shilling. The last Shilling struck for circulation was in 1966, they did not make any in 1967. They issued two different types of 1966 Shillings, the English reverse and the Scottish reverse. The coin on offer this issue is the Scottish 1966 Shilling in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. As the Shilling had a direct decimal equivalent they felt that they had enough of this denomination to fill all their needs at the time.
