We have just purchased a group of King George VI Silver Threepences from New Zealand, all were issued during World War II. This was the furthest part of the British Empire at the time and these coins must have had a heck of journey to get to New Zealand. This coin is offered in Fine condition and was issued in 1939.

In 1911, for the first and only time, coins were issued with the joint name of Nigeria & British West Africa. The 1/10th Penny was one of those coins and in fact it was the first one struck in cooper-nickel rather than aluminium. It was also the year that George V became our King. This is a very important type coin and the coins we offer are in Uncirculated condition. In the old catalogue (last published in 2018) they catalogued for $28.00 (£21.50). We want you to have this important type coin in your collection, so we am offering them for just £15, the last time we had one it sold quickly for £25.
This bronze Halfpenny from the Federation of Nigeria is a one year type coin, the last coin of Nigeria with the legend Queen Elizabeth the Second. The coins are Brilliant Uncirculated but have mellowed just a bit over the past 59 years. They have a hole in them, so the locals could carry them on a string. These coins are much more difficult to find than the catalogue indicates, in fact we cannot remember the last time we had some. Priced at less than catalogue and a difficult coin to find.
Panama in Central America was one of the first in modern times to issue a large silver coin. Under the auspices of the Franklin Mint they issued a 20 Balboa silver coin that was 61mm in diameter weighed 131.5 grams (4.22 ounces) of Sterling Silver. It had the portrait of Simon Bolivar the hero of South America on it. We have a small number of these huge silver coins in stock. Own one and you can be part of numismatic history, the silver value alone is worth a bunch. We think you will love these.
Direct from the Bank of Papua New Guinea is this fantastic set of 1995 Uncirculated coins. We would call them Prooflike or specimens but the bank called them Uncirculated, so Uncirculated they are. The set comes in a beautiful full-colour folder displaying both sides of the coin. Papua New Guinea is so heavily filled with trees and plants that it wasn’t until the 1930s that they found a million people in their interior. There are many different tribes and languages there and it can be a tough country. You get the 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 Toea and the 1 Kina. The 1 Kina has a hole in the middle and sea and river crocodiles chasing each other. The other coins have other native animals. Supplies are limited and you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one, it is fantastic!
On a recent trip to Germany I found a small quantity of two almost crownsized coins of Papua New Guinea. They were issued just 4 years apart, but boy are they different…! The 1 Kina of 2004 is a two year only type coin. The obverse has two fresh water crocodiles on it and it has a hole in the middle. The coin is 33.28mm in diameter and they are in Uncirculated condition. The 2 Kina of 2008 is a one year type coin and was issued to honour the 35th anniversary of the Bank of Papua New Guinea. It is bi-metallic and is also in Uncirculated condition.
The Paraguayan guarani has been the country’s currency since 1944, but it is also one of the least valued in the Americas. Due to infl ation centime coins are no longer used, but we can offer you this set of 4 coins from the 1990s. Minted in Chile, the 1 and 5 guarani coins are FAO commemoratives and show the image of a soldier and a woman in traditional dress, while the 10 guarani coins commemorates the officer and diplomat who fought in the Chaco War with Bolivia, and the 50 guarani commemorates former President Jose Felix Estigarribia who was killed in an plane crash in 1940
We bought part of a hoard of choice Persian Silver coins, they are 1/8 Qirans but better known as ‘Shahi-e-safid’ or ‘White Sahi’ to distinguish them from the copper Sahis. They were struck not for circulation but to be given as gifts as an expression of friendship and good luck for the ‘Now Ruz’ New Year celebrations. They are beautiful little silver coins and in choice condition, struck between 1854-1924 when they stopped minting them so they are also about 100 years old or more but in almost perfect condition. Why not buy a few of these unusual coins to give out to friends at New Year's for something a bit different? They are priced at a level that we think you will appreciate and won’t hurt too much to be given away as gifts!
A group of these early Peru silver coins came up at auction and we bought them! The denomination is 1/2 Dinero and they were issued between 1901 and 1917, which means of course, that they are over 100 years old, but also in uncirculated condition. You do not see these coins in such high grade all that often. We were delighted to buy the lot, as the price was reasonable and the quality very high, a combination you don’t often get. They are small Silver coins, but of high grade silver (900 fine), as Peru is known for being an important silver producer. The quality is outstanding and we can supply a few different dates. For a coin you never see in excellent condition, what more can you ask for?
This halfcrown sized coin was issued by the South American country of Peru in 1969. It has a modern representation of two fish on the reverse and the Peruvian coat of arms on the obverse. You don’t see all that many modern coins from Peru and this one has quite an attractive design on it and is in uncirculated condition. Supplies are very limited.
Every nation has its national poet and Poland is no exception. Adam Bernard Mickiewicz has even been dubbed the “Slavic bard” as his work is also highly regarded in Lithuania and Belarus. Between 1975 and 1977 the Polish government decided to issue a 10 zloty circulating commemorative coin to celebrate his contribution to literature and drama. On the obverse of the coin is the traditional white eagle emblem of Poland, while the reverse shows a bust of Mickiewicz himself facing left.
These 1 Grosz coins from Poland were minted in 1949 and were the first issue struck in aluminium at a time when many European countries, financially strained by World War II, trialled the use of aluminium for their coinage as it was much cheaper than copper or steel. These are in Choice Brilliant Uncirculated condition as good as the day there were struck, 74 years ago!
Poland has always been a troubled nation, this was the last coin issued as the Republic and before the German Occupation. It has the Polish Eagle on one side and the value in a fancy cartouche on the other side. It is large (25mm) and struck in nickel. This design was only used in 1929 and is the last 1 Zloty coin issued by the Polish Republic. The coins are in Very Fine condition and are not easy to get any more; after all there are a lot of coin collectors in Poland now. Add one to your collection, it is a very attractive coin.
