Cuba, Souvenir Coin 1985 Gold Plated

The Commonwealth Mint in Birmingham struck the 1985 Cuban Souvenir Peso, much better strikes than the Tower Mint did. They are beautiful proof pieces each in a protective capsule. No more will ever be made, the dies are being given to a museum. The coin on offer here is the 1985 Commonwealth Mint Souvenir Peso Gold Plated Previous issues have increased in value due to collector demand, we do not sell anything as an investment, just reporting the facts.

George VI, World War II Silver Set Unc

George VI, World War II Silver Set Unc

We have put together a few sets of the Silver coins issued by King George VI during World War II. But best of all these Silver coins are in Uncirculated condition. All the coins except the silver threepence will be dated between 1939-1945, the dates in each set will vary, that is they are not all the same date. It took me quite a while to put these World War II Uncirculated Silver Sets together, as some of the coins are very difficult to find in Uncirculated. The Threepence will be 1937 the year of King George VI Coronation. You get the Silver Threepence, Silver Sixpence, Silver English Shilling, Silver Scottish Shilling, Silver Florin and Silver Halfcrown all of George VI all issued during World War II except the Threepence and most importantly they are in Uncirculated condition. Supplies are Very Limited and these are handsome collections, after all they are at least 77 years old.

Irish, Complete Penny Collection 1928-1968_obv

Irish, Complete Penny Collection 1928-1968

Thanks to Peter we are able to offer the complete collection of Irish Pennies 1928-1968, from the Irish Free State (later the Irish Republic) and Eire. It includes the scarce and rare dates including the 1940. There are a total of 21 different dates, as on a number of years no Pennies were minted, from the very beginning until Ireland went over to the Euro. We have a very limited number of collections in stock, the Penny is highly collected, especially in the United States and they are not easy to get. To make it even better the 1968 (the last year of issue) will be in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The other coins will be in Fine or better condition. This is the first time we have been able to offer the complete date, collection and there might not be another chance. Again please be aware that you will receive all pennies issued over this period but some years no pennies were minted.

Maxentius. A.D. 306-312. Bronze Follis. AETERNITAS AVG N._obv

Maxentius. A.D. 306-312. Bronze Follis. AETERNITAS AVG N.

Somehow, Maxentius held on to power for six years, but bad behaviour and wasteful spending led to riots in Rome; thousands were massacred by his Praetorian Guard. The alliance broke down and in A.D. 312 Constantine invaded Italy. The two armies met at the Milvian Bridge outside Rome and Maxentius’ pagan army was defeated by Constantine, under the Christian banner. Maxentius drowned when the Milvian Bridge collapsed under his fleeing troops. In 2005 his imperial standards were found within a corroded wooden box on the Palatine hill and can be seen today in Rome! Maxentius was a committed pagan and from A.D. 309 to his downfall in A.D. 312 he made coins proclaiming ‘AETERNITAS AVG N’, asking the gods he reign eternally. He again specifically appealed to the people in Rome by portraying their traditional protectors, the Dioscuri; it shows Castor and Pollux standing facing, each holding his horses’ bridle. Maxentius only made these in the port city of Ostia, just outside Rome, and as Constantine then closed this mint, it only lasted 4 years! This means we offer a 1700 year old bronze coin of Maxentius in Very Fine, from a very Scarce mint and found in Cambridgeshire, Britain!
