New Stock October 2021 (Part II)

October has been a busy month for everyone here at Coincraft. We had a new upload of banknotes, another of British coins, and even one JUST for Roman coins.

And now we're bringing you Part II of the 'New Stock' for October. We've bested our record for the number of uploads made in a single month. Yay!

And why did we do it, do we hear you ask? Because winter is coming and with it, something else might be coming... and judging by what happened last year during this time on our website, we want to make sure our collectors have plenty of items from which to choose. It's just a precaution. So never mind the old less is more saying, when it comes to collecting more is more!

Ascension_Islands_Crown_Cover

Ascension Islands Crown Cover

This most unusual Crown Cover was issued in 2002 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of H. M. Queen Elizabeth II being our Queen. The cover shows a large black and white photograph of The Queen and the stamp from Guernsey is in full colour and shows her in a green outfit. It is the crownsized 50 Pence that caught my attention. It does not have the Queen on the reverse but rather Westminster Cathedral. The obverse has a crowned portrait of The Queen and it is from Ascension Island. This is unusual as most of the coins from Ascension are also from St. Helena. Both have small populations so they tend to combine the both. An interesting place, rather desert like and rather hard to get to. The crown is Prooflike Uncirculated and most unusual, one that I don’t think I have seen before.

British Caribbean Model Brass_rev

British Caribbean Model Brass

A while back we offered the Silver Model of this issue, now we have found the cupronickel and the brass strikings. They were originally made as plasters by the famous sculptor Henry Paget, the same man who made the 1935 Crown. They should have been small sized as the denomination was intended to be 10 Cents, but they are in fact crownsized. You have a sailing ship on one side with the date 1955 and the denomination 10 C. They were made originally for the British Caribbean Territories – Eastern Group. We have just 10 in stock and when they are gone there will be no more. They are Rare and have the word ‘Model’ on the reverse.

1940 British Guiana WW2 Silver Groat_obv

British Guiana, 1940 WW2 Silver Groat

About ten years ago we bought a large group of silver Groats or 4d from British Guiana. British Guiana is at the top of South America and the coins we bought have been ‘misplaced’ for ten years or more. Peter not only found them but also found out how many we had. These are difficult coins to find and are some of the last of the silver groats issued. Here we offer the 1940 Groat. They were struck in silver and are in selected circulated condition. Now that Peter has found them, We can offer them to our collectors, but supplies are very limited. A Scarce coin that several dealers in the Far East wanted, but we couldn’t find them at the time…
