The portrait on this 10 afghans note is of Muhammed Daud. (P47) He was a leader of the coup which overthrew the monarchy in 1973. He served as first president of Afghanistan until his assassination in 1978. The back features a view of the Arch of Qalu-e-Bost in Lashkar Gah. Uncirculated.
A set of 5 values issued by Albania in 1957 (P28-32). The denominations included are the 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 leke. It’s a colourful set . Illustrations include the country’s coat of arms, soldiers, harvesting wheat, a miner and electricity pylons. An impressive set in Uncirculated.
When this 1000 pesos was first issued in 2017 it was the highest denomination available.(P366) Since then, unfortunately, the Argentinian economy has collapsed under the weight of rampant inflation. This means that we are able to offer this attractive note at a greatly reduced price. The front shows the Rofous Hornro, Argentina’s national bird. On the back, the bird, as a chick, is shown in a typical Pampeon plain scene. Crisp Uncirculated.
This 2000 pesos note, recently issued to cope with ever rising inflation in Argentina, honours two pioneering physicians (P-New). The first is Ramon Carillo He was a Neurosurgeon and Public Health advocate who was Argentina’s first Minister of Public Health. He eventually had to go into exile after the 1955 coup d’etat against President Peron. The second physician featured is Cecilia Grierson, feminist, reformer and nurse who was the first women to get a Medical degree in Argentina. The gateway to the National Microbiology Institute is depicted on the back. Uncirculated.
Bangladesh has been issuing a series of commemorative banknotes marking important milestones in its history. This 50 taka note issued in 2021 commemorates 50 years of Independence 1971-2021(P-New) Rahman features on the front with young soldiers on the back Uncirculated.
This 500 riel note issued between 1958 and 1970 in Cambodia was printed by the Banque de France.(P14) It was the highest denomination at the time. The front shows a farmer with an ox plough while on the back we find a pagoda to the right and the doorway of Preah Vihear to the left. In that inimitable French style and Fine.
These Clydesdale Pounds were issued over 50 years ago in the 1960’s (P197/202) and they are increasingly hard to find in nice grade. The front is dominated by the bank’s Coat of Arms with a view of Clydeside on the back. Available in About EF.
During the Second World War, occupation currency, produced by the Japanese circulated in Hong Kong. This 100 yen note was one such issue (PM30c) A Japanese gentleman appears to the right on the front and a group of houses, set within a frame, appears on the back. In higher than usual grade GEF/AU.
From 1950’s Iceland, this 50 kronur note shows legendary founding Norse settler Ingolfur Arnarson, based on a statue by local sculptor Einar Jonsson and found in the centre of the capital Reykjavik(P37). The back shows an engraving of Bessastadir, the official residence of the President of Iceland. Uncirculated.
