New Stock July 2023 (Banknotes)

Delving into our vast stock of cheques we came up with some interesting documents from overseas issued in the 20th century. This cheque was issued in Lima Peru. It comes from the Banco del Peru y Londres. Included in the detail were the bank's hours of opening for payment and a blind embossing for 4 centavos which was stamp duty payable. The cheques are denominated in libras peruanos de oro. A vignette of the Bank HQ completes the cheque. Crisp GEF and complete with counterfoil. Limited availability.

Over the years, several towns and communities in the UK have issued their own paper currency. It was intended to circulate in the local community with traders agreeing to accept these special notes alongside more traditional forms of payment. The benefits were that residents were encouraged to shop locally. The city of Bath adopted a Local Exchange Trading System using paper notes. Quite a few towns took up the idea but sadly now, most of the schemes have closed not helped by the lockdowns during the pandemic which increased the number of contactless payments. We were delighted to be able to offer some of this 2013 Bath Local £1 in Uncirculated condition.

This stunning Bermuda 2 dollar bill won the Banknote of the Year Award when it was released in 2009 (P57) and it’s not difficult to see why. The charming vertical design depicts the Bermuda Bluebird, an hibiscus watermark and a compass which fluoresces under ultra violet light. A portrait of Elizabeth II appears in the bottom left corner on the front and a clocktower features on the back. Crisp Uncirculated.

There is much talk as the whether countries, outside of the UK, issuing banknotes with the monarch’s portrait would continue now that Charles is King. Countries like Canada retained Queen Elizabeth’s portrait on the 20 dollar denomination and we can offer it now. A beautiful green banknote printed on polymer with the portrait of Her Majesty facing forward wearing her trademark pearl necklace. Crisp Uncirculated and limited availability.

These 1 yuan notes,printed by the American Banknote Company and dated 1928, were issued by the Central Bank of China.(P195c) They are in Choice Uncirculated condition. The front has an ornate design while the back has a portrait of revered revolutionary Sun Yat Sen. Usual seen in scruffy condition, these are in wonderful condition.
