Nagorno-Karabakh, Set of 7 Coins. Uncirculated.

Nagorno-Karabakh Set of 7 Coins. Uncirculated. Nagorno-Karabakh can certainly be considered a most unusual country. Although it declared its independence in 1991, the United Nations still considers it part of Azerbaijan. The majority of the residents are of Armenian descent. The country borders Armenia, Iran, and Azerbaijan but considers itself an independent nation. This set of 7 coins was issued in 2004 and as far as we know it is the only set of coins from this country. There are 3 aluminum 1 Drams, a Saint, 2 cats, and a bird with a very long tail. There are also 2 of the 50 Luma, one with a prancing horse and one with a gazelle. There are 2 of the 5 Drams one with an ancient monument and the other with an ornate church. All the coins are Brilliant Uncirculated condition and I don’t know anywhere else that has this set for sale at this time.

Republic of Burundi, Mint Set of 4

Republic of Burundi Mint Set of 4. The Republic of Burundi is not one of the African nations that one hears a lot about. It is one of the smallest countries in Africa and is also landlocked. Not all that many people go there and far fewer of them have their coins. We can offer you a four coin Mint Set in Uncirculated condition. You get the 1, 5, 10 and 50 Franc coins from 2003-2011 in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. They are most unusual designs and I think rather modern and still interesting. If you want exotic coins from an exotic country then these are them. Not easy to find and certainly not easy to get.

Trans-Dniester Republic, set of 4 coins

The autonomous region called the Trans-Dniester Republic issued a most unusual set of coins in 2014. They are made of a composite material, are semi-transparant and have a textured surface. This was originally part of the Russian Federation but is now ‘independent’. They are a plastic type material but with a hardness that produces a stone like sound when rubbed. They were issued by the Trans-Dniester Republic Bank and there are 4 denominations. 1 Rouble circular, 3 Roubles square with rounded corners, 5 Roubles pentagon shaped with rounded corners and 10 Roubles hexagonal with the rounded corners. They have the rounded corners for ease of use and for ease of machine readability at high speeds. These were an experiment and who knows if they will continue to issue them. But we thought that they were very interesting and rather well priced so we obtained 100 sets of them. Supplies are limited.
