Elizabeth II, 1986 Mint Proof Set
In 1986 the Royal Mint thought we needed a new coin, so for the first time ever, they issued a £2 piece NOT in gold. Before then all £2 pieces were struck in 22ct Gold. This 1986 £2 was also the first commemorative £2. It was issued for the Commonwealth Games which were held in Edinburgh. For the first time, a Proof Set contained a non-gold £2 piece. The 1986 Proof Set contains 1p, 2p, 5p, plus 10p, 20p, and 50p not struck for circulation, plus the £1 and £2 coins. All coins including the ones not struck for circulation come in Proof condition, the set comes in the Royal Mint case of issue.
