Romania, Tennis Aluminium

At this time of year tennis seems to be on many British people’s minds, what with Wimbledon and all. So I found a group of Rare patterns issued for tennis for the 1996 Olympics held in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States. They only made 125 pieces in each metal and thickness. So these are some of the rarest Olympic coins you will ever see. The type on offer here is Aluminium. Each coin is full crownsized and struck in proof condition. They are struck at one of the oldest mints in the world in Romania, which has been in business for centuries and the quality is outstanding. An outstanding feature is the denomination, 100 Lei, is on the edge, so as not to detract from the design of the coin.

Romania, Ice Dance Copper

This is a RARE Piedfort Pattern made by the Romania Mint for the Winter Olympics held in Nagano Japan in 1998. It depicts a couple Ice Dancing on one side and the arms of Romania on the other side. This is a Piedfort, that means that it is double the normal thickness. So on a crown that is quite a huge piece. The total mintage is just 125, quite a Rare piece and no doubt very collectable in Japan. It was issued in 1989 and is a very unusual coin, in that the denomination is on the edge, so as not to spoil the design.

Romania, Ice Hockey Copper Piedfort

Recently we have been getting a number of enquirers from Romania and several other former Eastern European countries for the Romanian pattern Crowns that we had so many of. Strange, when we went to check our inventory we discovered that the large group we had was almost sold out. After all they are very low mintage, they are Olympic commemoratives and they are priced cheaply. We did find one piece that we had in a smallish quantity and that we can offer to you at a reasonable price. It is Pattern Crown struck for the Ice Hockey event held in Nagano, Japan. It was struck in copper proof, double thickness or Piedfort and with a mintage of just 125 pieces. Get them before the Romanian dealers buy them all up.
