In 2012 Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the 60th anniversary of her ascending the throne 1952-2012. To celebrate this historic event a new Medal or decoration was issued. It showed the Queen with her hair up and wearing a tiara. The reverse has E II R crowned within a set of boxes and the dates 1952-2012. As with most awards, they also issued a miniature for wearing when the full-sized original would be too big to wear. It is these miniatures that we now offer you. They are complete with a red, white, and blue ribbon and the medal itself is silver plated. We assume these are official, but to be honest we really don’t know. We were offered them, they look fantastic, the price was right and we thought that you collectors might like one (Actual size of medal 18mm).

Postumus was the governor of Germany in A.D. 260 when the emperor Valerian was captured in the East. With the Roman world in crisis the rebel Postumus was left in control of Britain, Gaul, Spain and parts of Germany, forming what was called the ‘Gallic Empire’. Like many emperors at the time Postumus was murdered by his own troops in A.D. 269. At the start of his reign Postumus minted coins that were about 20% silver, at least twice as much silver than the coins being made by Gallienus’ central government in Rome. Later in his reign as he ran out of resources he lowered the silver content to about 5%, the same as the rest of the empire. This is the 5% silver grade Extremely Fine meaning they’ve had very limited use since they were struck.

Trebonianus Gallus was proclaimed emperor by the soldiers in A.D. 251 upon the death of Trajan Decius and Herennius Etruscus in the disastrous Battle of Abrittus. He spent his reign trying to stabilise the empire until he was killed by the usurper, Aemilian, in A.D. 253. At this time Viminacium was a city in Moesia Superior, modern Serbia. With 40,000 inhabitants it was given the right to mint local money. These Bronze coins are roughly 25mm and weight about 10g. They show Trebonianus Gallus’ head on the obverse with the goddess of Moesia on the reverse flanked by a lion and a bull. They grade Very Good and are priced accordingly. Trebonianus Gallus only ruled for two years, these will fill that gap in your collection well.
The ancient Chinese warrior was originally not part of an army but more of a solitary nomadic person travelling the land helping those in need and righting the wrongs done to the common people by their oppressors. Folklore and novels describe them as being princes, government officials, poets, musicians, physicians, professional soldiers, merchants, monks and even humble farmers and butchers. Some were just as handy with a calligraphy brush as others were with swords and spears. The Chinese Warrior is seen here on this 10 Franc coin from the Democratic Republic of Congo in traditional dress, brandishing a long spear.
The 1992 Mint Set is one of the most important that the Royal Mint has issued. That is because four of the coins in it, were not struck for circulation. For this is the set here the Mint changed over from bronze 1p & 2p coins to copper plated steel. They also reduced the size of the 10 Pence coin. You get the 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p large and small, 20p, Britannia 50p and EU 50 Pence all in a full colour presentation case. The 1p & 2p are struck in bronze and were not issued for circulation. You get the large sized 10p which was not issued for circulation. Finally you get the Britannia 50 Pence which was not issued for circulation. This is a very important set because it contains three coins that were radically changed and the 50 pence which was not issued.
The discovery of Iceland, according to medieval sources, took place in the second half of the 9th century A.D. when Norwegians on their way to the Faroes were driven off course and came upon an unknown land further to the west. There they found Irish Christian hermits who left soon after the Norsemen arrived. On the 1100th anniversary of the settlement, the Central Bank of Iceland issued commemorative coins to mark the occasion. The coins were designed by an Icelandic artist but struck at the Royal Mint in the UK. The two coins in this set are the 1000 Kronur showing two Norsemen beside a large fire and the 500 Kronur depicting a woman leading a cow by her side. The reverse of both coins shows Iceland’s guardian spirits, a bull, a bird, a dragon and a giant. A beautiful pair of large-size Sterling silver proof coins in the case of issue, now 50 years old but as perfect as the day they were struck.

Brunei is one of the richest countries in the world, so getting things from it is very difficult. It is a small but rich country. This badge was made for wearing on a soldiers cap. It is very ornate and comes with 3 pins sticking out, which we have temporarily flattened for shipping. It is gold plated and we understand was actually made in this country. It measures 57mm x 55mm and it is the first time that we have seen it let alone been able to offer it for sale. We don’t know what they cost to make, but it had to be very considerable as Brunei only went with the best.
