It wasn’t that long ago that when you wrote cheques, they would be returned to you by the bank. That of course rarely happens these days. But in the 19th Century it certainly was the norm which is how we come to have access to these cheques drawn on the Isle of Man Banking Company Limited and dated in the 1860’s and 1870’s.
