Elizabeth II, £5 (White Lion of Mortimer) 2020 2 Oz Silver Piedfort

Issued in 2020 this large thick £5 piece is part of the series of The Queen’s Beasts and is a Piedfort. It weighs not one but two ounces of pure Silver. It shows a Lion standing holding the shield with the arms of Mortimer. It was issued toward the end of last year and what with the pandemic and all, it will be interesting to see how many they made. Since it was issued the price of silver has also risen. We bought them and put them aside until now. We only have some pieces available for our collectors. It is a beautiful coin in beautiful condition and worth having in your collection. The portrait of H. M. The Queen is brilliant on a cross-hatched field, which really makes it stand out. We have just checked the wholesaler and he has raised his prices by £20 since he last offered them…

Picture of Elizabeth II, £2 1998 Silver Proof Pound

Elizabeth II, £2 1998 Silver Proof Pound

In 1997 the Royal Mint changed the Two Pound Piece. They made it smaller and they also made it bimetallic and as with all new designs or types, collectors put them away. Come the next year and 1998 was almost forgotten by collectors. The coin on offer is the collector’s version of the circulating £2 of 1998, but struck in Proof Sterling Silver. To make the coin look like a bi-metallic coin, they gold plated the rim of the coin, so you see gold and silver, similar colours to the circulating issue. We have found that this 1998 Silver Proof £2 is not an easy coin to find and many collectors are missing it in their collections. An interesting coin almost forgotten by collectors and the price is right.

St. Helena, 2013 25 Pence (St. George Crown)

The tiny island of St. Helena, where Napoleon died, has honoured St. George slaying the dragon, with a beautiful Sterling Silver Proof crown. This was originally designed by Pistrucci for the new coinage of George III in 1818. It is still being used on our Gold Sovereigns today. They issued a crownsized 25 Pence in 2013 with H. M. Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and St. George slaying the dragon on the reverse. To make it even more impressive they have highlighted the Sterling Silver Proof St. George and the dragon crown, in gold. Each choice Proof coin comes in a protective capsule. But supplies are very limited on a Rare and most impressive coin. I think the price is also impressive. Today the mints would charge about £80-£85 for this coin, but NOT Coincraft. We bought them right, we sell them right.
